Boating? There's an app for that. Well, multiple apps. We compiled a few of our most used and favorite apps for boaters. Let us know your experience with these apps and others and feel free to add to our list.

    Windy

Our brokers and captains alike tout this app as a must for any boater. User friendly and interactive with instant load times, Windy allows you to pinpoint any area and then provides detailed and accurate info on the waves, tides, and temperature. It provides projections for 3 days out and then gives you a full details for the next 24 hour scope. It’s free and without pesky advertisements that waste data and make for sluggish loading.

    Dockwa

Always on the move or a titan last minute cruising? Or simply looking to streamline your moorage bookings? Dockwa provides information on marinas across the country and allows you to request and manage marina reservations right from your app. You can hook up payment methods through your account for booking - there’s no booking fees. It’s free as well.

    Navionics

The Boating Marine & Lakes App by Navionics is one of the most popular and downloaded boating apps. Owned by Garmin, they provide detailed charts and navigation planning along with advanced capabilities like plotter syncing, custom chart views, and autorouting. They offer a free 2 week trial before you need to purchase a subscription or make in-app purchases.

    Boating Suite

Long gone are the days of traditional log books. If you’re like most people, you probably have your boating related information scattered in several different places - pile of fuel receipts, some illegible notes, and a few photos on your iPad. Put them all in one place with Boating Suite - a $4.99 purchase that provides a variety of logs like fuel and maintenance as well as a shopping and to do list.

    Animated Knots by Grog

Want to brush up on your tieing skills or just impress some friends? Animated knots offers step-by-step animations of over a hundred knots with an entire category dedicated to useful knots in boating. You’ll also get info on the correct use of each knot as well as the advantages and disadvantages of its strength. Check out their free online site or download their app for $4.99.

Windy is the bomb! We almost exclusively use this app for our weather planning. We used on our trip down the west coast and found it spot on. Plus it has a really cool feature in that you can hit play and see how the weather changes over a chosen period of time.
